Editorial Review for Sixteen – by Fred Schlatter
The Scene
A zebrawood-paneled elevator zips swank diners up to the lobby--a space defined by a sliver of a bar and glassy duel cellars that flank the entrance. The back wall is a curved, leaning edifice of burled wood; a tiered chandelier is laden with crystal lozenges. Upholstered white chairs and basket-weave leather bolsters fixed to the perimeter make comfortable seating for the glorious East-to-South view.
The Food
Chef Brunacci applies international flair to contemporary American. Subtle crab salad arrives swaddled in fragrant rockmelon and dressed with pineapple and cress in one starter, and vanilla cream anoints foie terrine-the richness cut by vinegary fig and hearts of palm salad-in another. Despite succulent poussin, creamed corn and roasted peppers amount to a pedestrian dish. Another disappointment: Crisp phyllo-lobster packages are delicious alone, but suffer alongside rubbery pork belly. Desserts favor pairing, too, like praline croustillante with tequila-lime ice cream, but often fall short of synergy.
Hits
Views like this are rare, nailing a vibe serious enough for clients while sexy for dates.
Misses
Food can falter, occasionally trading execution for theoretically good ideas.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe wine list is expensive---very expensive. It can take quite some digging to come up with something different---that is if wine other than pricey American and French reds is desired.
The ExtrasBreakfast and brunch/lunch are not to be ignored. The kitchen caters to executives with the time to enjoy luscious takes on classic preparations.
